ABOUT WOOD PELLETS

In 1973, during the oil crisis, the demand for affordable home heating drastically increased, spearheaded a drive toward alternative heat sources. This later lead to the existence of wood pellets. Wood pellets were initially invented in the United States; they are small eraser-sized capsules made of compressed sawdust. Wood pellets are mainly produced from dried biomass that has been powdered and passed through a dye at high pressure and temperature. The high temperature and the compression cause the lignin to melt, gluing the particles together, then re-forming as a pellet after cooling. The pellet manufacturing process depends on the material used but tends to include the following steps: Collation of raw material, screening, grinding, drying, pelletizing, cooling, sifting, and packaging.  wood pellet grill
